Several years ago before I developed an appreciation for Texas wine, I kept hearing about a sommelier and winemaker who was revolutionizing the Texas wine industry: Rae Wilson. After cutting her chops in Napa and Portugal, she moved to Austin to make Texas wine, producing her first vintage under her Wine for the People label in 2014.
I was so excited to try her wines, and had to make a trip out to the Texas AVA tasting room Wine for the People shares with C.L. Butaud in Dripping Springs. It was more than worth the trip!
Wine for the People consists of three labels, all representing a different style and approach to wine making. The first is Dandy Rosé, making delicious and easy to love rosés that will charm everyone. The second is La Valentia, which focuses more on higher-end, boutique, and single vineyard bottlings. These bottles all feature artwork from the incredible Austin artist Katy Schmader. The final line is a partnership with Texas winery Lost Draw Cellars called The Grower Project, focusing on sustainably made single vineyard wines.
If you find yourself in Texas, keep an eye out for Rae Wilson’s phenomenal line up of wines, reflecting the true character and potential of Texas terroir.
