C.L. Butaud's Pa Pa Frenchy White Wine 2020

One of the things I love about emerging wine regions is that the winemakers tend to take some very fun risks in their winemaking. There’s a bit of freedom in being the new kid on the block, and that freedom creates opportunity for exploration and creativity.

This C.L. Butaud Pa Pa Frenchy White 2020 wine is a direct result of that willingness to push the boundaries of tradition, with stellar results. It is a 50/50 blend of Muscat Blanc and Roussanne, two grapes that I have never seen combined until this wine. This Muscat Blanc created soaring floral notes of honeysuckle and lemon blossom, while the Roussanne intensified the wine with an almost umami background note. This dry wine had refreshing acidity, a light body, and noticeable minerality on the palate.

At ~$14, this wine is a total steal I’ll be picking up any time I see it in a shop.
